About
Join us for Mendelssohn’s zesty Italian Symphony, a piece evoking sun-drenched hills and feasting al fresco inspired by the 22-year-old composer’s grand tour of Europe. A Haydn symphony opens the concert, a piece inspired by a trip to London. The “father of the symphony” spent his happiest days there, basking in celebrity and even finding romance. Haydn’s London Symphony mingles grandeur and rustic verve. Guest conductor Earl Lee makes his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra debut. Also on the program, principal oboist Elizabeth Tiscione rolls out the artistry in Françaix’s The Flower Clock, a picturesque oboe concerto evoking brightly-hued flowers that bloom according to the time of day.
